Data Import Ownership

Data Import and Ownership

When you import data, a data source is created to hold that data. A default Layer is created to display the data in the map. If User Access Control is enabled, both the data source and the Layer are owned by you, and are initially only accessible by you (or an administrator). That is, the data and default Layer are private to you.

Note

The data import configuration itself is not a UAC-controlled object. All users with Management module access can view and delete these configurations. Deleting a configuration also deletes the associated data source and any Layers for that configuration.

For example, if you import a data file, it shows in the list of import configurations in the Management > Data Import drop-down. The initial import creates a default Layer in a folder of your choice. If UAC is enabled only you (and an administrator) can see this Layer. If the Layer has any graphable fields, a corresponding graph data source appears for Sections that include that data. With UAC enabled the graphing data is also only visible to you (and an administrator). You can rename or re-colour the Layer, and graph or export the data source.

If User Access Control is not enabled, when you import data and create a data Layer from it, the data source and the Layer are visible to all users. All users can also edit, delete, rename, and move the Layer, and graph or export the data source.
