Working with Layer Styles
A Layer style or style rule defines the rule applied to data fields used to trigger the chosen style colour. If no style rules trigger for an item, the item will not be shown in the layer. The style editor allows you to configure styles within a Layer. When you create a layer there are four main ways to create styles:
Based on a custom formula
You can create custom styles for a new Layer. When you create a custom style, you create a formula based on attributes of the data. You build the formula for the style using your data elements and the operator building blocks to create a logical statement. You can use non-standard operators in a custom formula. Band your data according to your formulas and apply a colour to each band. The data that is true for the defined formula is visible on the map in the colour that you pick for the style.

Based on number ranges
You can create styles for a new Layer based on number ranges. Use number ranges for a style if your formula need contain only numeric values. The data that is true for the defined number ranges is visible on the map in the colour that you pick for each number range style.
See Defining Styles from Number Ranges for a Data Layer
Based on text matching options
You can create styles for a Layer based on a match to alphanumeric characters. Specify text to include or exclude data items or to associate colour styling with a match.

Existing Layer
You can create a set of styles for a new layer based on the styles of an existing layer.
