Works Plans

Generate maintenance plans with multiple scenarios

The main objective of Horizons is to produce Works Plans! These bring together all of the Analysis features to generate cost-effective, prioritised programmes of works across multiple years.

A Works Plan takes the raw output of a Treatment Set and applies various constraints to the generated Treatment schemes, such as budget, condition targets and geographical prioritisation. It calculates the deterioration of assets throughout the year and looks ahead to see if each potential Treatment can be deferred safely, or requires immediate action to reduce future costs. This is repeated for the specified number of years, using each year's calculated condition data to inform the next.

Each Works Plan produces multiple scenarios that take different approaches to asset maintenance:

  • Worst First - treat assets with the worst Condition Score until the budget is consumed.

  • Asset Sweating - treat assets that will benefit the most. By default, assets are only treated if they will require a more severe and costly Treatment the following year. This allows assets to deteriorate gracefully, maximising their utility and lifespan.

  • Performance Strategies - treat assets in order to meet strategic targets (e.g. condition thresholds, backlog reduction, minimal emissions), while maximising the Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR).

Once a Works Plan has completed successfully, it will recommend the cheapest scenario that meets the most targets. These results can be visualised as Layers on the map. You can also access a set of Reports that provide detailed breakdowns of each scenario, ranging from Network level down to individual asset Sections.

Note

Works Plans are managed in a separate Analysis Tools tab.
